Snippet Sunday #7

It’s Snippet Sunday!!! This is the last post you’ll see about Wishes for a while because crazy brain overthrew sane brain, and now I’m starting a new NaNoWriMo project! don’t worry! I’m not abandoning it because I’m too attached to the characters, but it’s just too complicated for me to successfully turn it into a NaNo project without getting totally sick of it and dropping it in the recycle bin forever. I don’t want that to happen, so I really want to take my time with it. Sooooo… You’ll be seeing snippets from my new project until NaNo is over!

Here’s how to participate in Snippet Sunday if you don’t already know:

•Share a snippet of your writing,(a sentence, a paragraph, or however much you want to share with the world.) •Link back to the creator of Snippet Sunday. Have fun, be bookish, and stay writerly!

My Snippet:

There were a lot of things Nico Deverow wished he could unknow.

Snippet Sunday #6

It’s Snippet Sunday time!!! Y’all probably know this by now, but here’s how to participate:

■Share a snippet of your writing-a sentence, a paragraph, a bit of dialogue, or whatever!

■Link your post to Samantha’s blog, where Snippet Sunday began.

■Have fun, be bookish, stay writerly, and drop me a link to your post in the comments if you want.

Today’s snippet comes from a random index card pulled from the folder containing the extremely disorganized outline of my WIP, Wishes. Let’s see what it is!

The Snippet:

“Believe nothing that you see and a fourth of what you hear. No one’s going to tell you the truth; you have to find it out for yourself.”

-Archer Cross to Nico Deverow

Snippet Sunday #5

Hey writerly people! I’m writing a Snippet Sunday post while it’s still technically Sunday! I have 30 minutes… I got this!

How To Participate in Snippet Sunday:

  • Share a snippet of your writing-a sentence, a paragraph, a chapter, or however much you want.
  • Link your post back to Samantha’s blog, where snippet Sunday began.
  • Have fun, be bookish, stay writerly, and don’t lose any sleep!

For some context, my snippet is again from my fantasy novel in progress that is currently under the working title of “Wishes,” consists mostly of scribbled scenes on index cards, and will hopefully be my NaNoWriMo project in November if my school schedule allows time for it. I just grabbed a random card, and I haven’t looked at it yet because my room was freezing and I jumped in bed with it and my laptop, so this might be interesting to say the least…

Here It Goes!

“There’s no shame here,” Ela said softly, gently tilting his chin up to meet her gaze

“Yes there is,”

“No.” She carefully brushed her sleeves back and held her arms in the light, revealing several faint scars.

Ok… That wasn’t too bad, but you’re probably confused! That bit of conversation took place between Nico and Ela. Nico is an empath, meaning that he can pick up on the residual energy of a place. He can see all the tragic events that have happened, and any spirits that are still lingering around the area. He tends to take on a lot of emotions from others and the energy around him, and he really hasn’t had a great life. SO… I’m letting my inner psych nerd show with his character, and attempting to address the issue of self-harming with a fantasy approach. Nico cuts to release all that held in energy, and Ela just revealed to him that she used to burn herself for roughly the same reasons. The details are a little sketchy at this point, but I kinda want them to end up together at the end of the first book in this series I’m writing. Ok… I reeeeeally want them to end up together, but I am terrible when it comes to writing romance! I know it has to happen at some point though, so we’ll see how it goes… That scene card had a bunch of question marks on it after that dialogue, so I’ve got some work cut out for me! And now I am going to sleep, so tell me what you thought of that in the comments below!

Snippet Sunday #4

May I present you with a long overdue Snippet Sunday post! If you’ve forgotten what Snippet Sunday is in my absence…

Here’s How to Participate:

■Share a snippet of your writing. It can be a sentence, a chapter, or however much you want.

■Link your post to Samantha’s blog, where Snippet Sunday first began.

■Have fun, be bookish, and stay writerly!

For some context, my snippet comes from my ongoing work in progress, Wishes, that I’ve been sharing from. In this scene, Nico Deverow and Diana Bishop are fighting because Nico won’t let Diana read his tarot cards.

The Snippet

The glare he shot her could’ve frozen lava. Adam could see that her words had stung, and that he was hurting from them, but she saw exactly what Nico wanted her to see: an angry challenge and a bad boy smile.

Snippet Sunday #3

It’s Snippet Sunday time! That means it’s time to share my writing with the world—or at least the piece of the world who has discovered my little corner of the internet…

How to Participate in Snippet Sunday

•Share a snippet of your writing. It can be a chapter, a paragraph, a sentence, or however much you want to share.

•Link your post to Samantha’s blog, where Snippet Sunday first began.

•Drop a link to your post in the comments so I can see your writing.

•Have fun, be bookish, and stay writerly!!!

For some context, this snippet is from the same work in progress that I’ve been sharing things from by the working title of “Wishes.” It’s a bit of dialogue that passes between Nico Deverow, (my MC), and his mentor, Archer Cross.

The Snippet

“Sometimes curses are brought about by our own minds. Sometimes things aren’t what our thoughts make them out to be,” she says calmly, still studying him with her cool gray eyes, “If you claim something to be a curse, then it will be a burden on you until you decide otherwise, but know this… The powers above, whatever you believe them to be, don’t give anyone something they can’t move through or learn from. And sometimes, the strongest warriors are given some of the hardest challenges because the powers that be know they will only come out stronger in the end. That’s something your mother told me once. I haven’t forgotten it; don’t you ever forget it either.”

Snippet Sunday #2

It’s Snippet Sunday time!!! I haven’t done a Snippet Sunday post in a while, so this is long overdue…

How To Participate In Snippet Sunday:

  • Share a snippet of your current writing project. It can be a sentence, a paragraph, a bit of dialogue, a poem, a chapter… You get the picture!…
  • Link your post back to Samantha’s blog, where Snippet Sunday first began!
  • Drop a link to your post in the comments so I can see it!
  • Have fun, be bookish, and stay writerly!

For a bit of context, this snippet comes from my current project, which is a fantasy novel by the working title of Wishes. It started when I was given a positively hideous assignment for the poetry unit in my English class last year. The reason I passed that assignment was because I ended up writing all the poems as though they pertained to my story to make it slightly less tortuous, and this anagram is one of them that I ended up keeping. It sets up the theme of my story SO well, and I think I’ll probably put it at the front of the book kind of like a mini prologue.

Perfection Flawed

It’s best to keep a common truth,

Lest a darkened storm should brew.

For if a lie is seen outside,

Then flawed perfection hides inside!
